Columbia Pub Crawl 2020
Sunday March 15
A bunch of CRABSters and friends visited all the Columbia breweries.
Four of us hit every stop, and several other folks joined us at different times so that
there were anywhere from seven to ten of us at each stop.
Our first stop was Sapwood Cellars. This place has a
sour barrel program but those beers were available in bottle only. The only sour they had on
tap was a kettle sour. I sampled:
- Double Orange Sorbet (good DIPA with vanilla beans and Cara Cara orange zest)
- Cryovolcano (nice NEIPA with Citra and Mosaic)
- I Declare Bankruptcy! (nice 10% ABV imperial stout)
- Sabro Says (IPA with Sabro and Lotus)
- Sapwood Kellers (pilsner)
- Passion Fruit Popper (good kettle sour)
- Threat Level Noon (good Scottish stout)
Our next stop was Reckless Ale Works, which is
Frisco Tap House's brewery. It had just opened about two months earlier (their beers were
brewed at Frisco for several years). It's a large space with ping pong, pool, and air hockey
tables. The main attraction is axe throwing. Hey, nothing like mixing alcohol with sharp
objects. The beers are served in pints only; no flights. Some of us weren't phobic about
coronavirus so we tasted each other's beers. I tried:
- Radar Down (good IPA)
- Illustrious Buddha - Ekuanot (good NEIPA)
- Cascade Falls (dry IPA)
- Death Metal Diva (stout)
- Aspiring Redneck (helles)
A block away is Frisco Tap House. (There is also
another Frisco in Crofton.) They had more than 50 beers on tap, including 7 Reckless beers.
I tasted:
- Sixpoint Master Blend (nice stout)
- Epic Big Bad Baptist - Chocolate Rapture (good stout)
- Wicked Weed Bourbon Barrel-Aged Oblivion (sour stout)
Next we went to Hysteria Brewing. (I parked at
Black Flag and walked to Hysteria so I'd be done driving for the day.) I tried:
- Big Beer No Little Beer (nice 11% ABV German chocolate cake stout)
- Salute Your Schwarz (toasted marshmallow schwarzbier)
- 1996 (good IPA)
- Ich Bin En (not sure of the name) (nice 2.5% ABV Berliner weisse)
- I'm Tryna Nap (good DIPA)
- This Paper Actually Smells Amazing (good NEIPA)
- Trash Panda (NEIPA)
Less than a mile away is Black Flag Brewing.
I tasted:
- Gunmetal (quite good NEIPA)
- Gondor Calls for Haze ("modern" IPA)
- Double Heaven (good NEDIPA)
- Steady Hoist (black lager)
- Black Star (pilsner)
- Z Morris (blonde)
- Black Claw (bear claw donut stout) (collaboration with Duclaw)
- Quadra Magic (good bourbon barrel-aged Belgian quad)
Afterward I went with Les, Jeff, and Tom to a local Indian restaurant called Chutney. Then they
dropped me off at my car, where I had a nice pillow and sleeping bag waiting for me.
