2011 Maryland Brewers Oktoberfest

The 10th annual Maryland Brewers Oktoberfest was held on Saturday October 8, 2011. There were lots of goings-on, such as live music, a wife carrying contest, a beer belly contest, and the announcement of the homebrew contest winners, but I missed all that because I was focusing on beer.

I arrived at 10:50 a.m., ten minutes before it opened for VIP ticket holders and more than an hour before general admission, and already there were about a hundred people in line.

Inside the crowd enjoyed samples of dozens of Maryland-made craft brews.

Most of the Maryland craft brewers were there, including Barley and Hops, Brewers Alley, Brewers Art, Dog Brewing, Duclaw, Ellicott Mills, Flying Dog, Franklin's, Growlers, Heavy Seas, Johansson's, Oliver, The Raven, Red Brick Station, and Ruddy Duck.

There were also several casks.

All sorts of vendors sold everything from food to spices to jewelry to mugs.

Duclaw put on a marvelous display with their electronic billboard and more than a dozen beers that they rotated throughout the day. There wasn't a line to get their beer - there was a mosh pit.
